MUN Introduction

What is Model United Nations?

Founded in 1991, World Model United Nations Conference (World MUN) is the most diverse college-level Model UN conference in the world, attracting more than 2,000 college students from more than 60 countries each year for a youth summit. World MUN grants participants the opportunity to articulate their views on international issues, to build up friendships beyond borders, and to establish deep understanding and new perspectives of cultures.

In a MUN conference, participants, also known as delegates will follow the UN conference rules of procedures and uphold the true spirit of democracy and diplomacy. Throughout the sessions, delegates will debate over selected issues, question and negotiate with theirr counterparts, raise propositions, draft resolutions and adopt one by voting. Intense as it is, delegates are obliged to do in-depth research regarding the mandates and be well-prepared to contribute in the conference.

World MUN travels to a new city each year. Future leaders gather annually with the shared purpose to negotiate, to debate over and to draft resolution to the most pressing world issues within the five-day World MUN sessions. In 2010, Taipei successfully brought World MUN to the city and received high praises among delegates around the globe. This year, World MUN celebrates its 20th birthday in Singapore under the collaboration of Harvard World MUN team and National University of Singapore as host team.
